Hi Global Strays Partner,

The animal welfare space sees so much tragedy and heartbreaking cases of suffering animals, but sometimes, a remarkable story reminds us of the happy endings amongst the sadness.

In early 2022, Daysi was found dragging her paralyzed body in the streets of Nicaragua. When she arrived at our partner shelter, Rescatando Huellas, Daysi was a terrified dog, expressing aggression as a form of self defense. For months, she showed great distrust and was unwilling to let the shelter staff touch her. As she spent time at the shelter, Daysi’s health improved. Thanks to our generous donors, Global Strays raised enough to buy her a wheelchair, shipped to Nicaragua all the way from the U.S.

Daysi adapted well to her wheelchair. Today, she's energetic and able to easily move around the shelter. The most amazing part of this story is that Daysi has learned to trust and bonded with a caretaker at the shelter, Jose.

“Daysi is a very calm dog.  When she came to the shelter, I felt very sorry for her to see her in her condition. Little by little I gained her trust. I'm sure she knows that I will never hurt her. That's why she always comes to me, so I can spoil her.”

Daysi is known to run to Jose when he calls for her, eager for his affection. This is a story of a second chance at life, both in Daysi’s mobility and her ability to trust again.

Daysi is just one of many animals Global Strays supports through our Monthly Shelter Upkeep Program for animal shelters in underserved areas of the world. Global Strays’ mission is to alleviate the suffering of animals so that dogs like Daysi can have happy endings.
