This is Otto. Otto, approximately 8 years old, was rescued by one of our partner organizations when they found him in dire condition on the streets of Managua, Nicaragua. His eyes and face were covered in cancerous tumors. Unable to see, Otto had also been run over by a vehicle which severely injured his leg. We think he was suffering on the streets for at least several months.

See Otto now (below). We sent the support for Otto's treatment immediately. He has shown great improvement after a third round of chemotherapy, and continues to get better every day. But, Otto is one of the lucky ones.

Unfortunately, there are too many stray animals in the world and not enough resources to help them all. Spay and neutering services are the best preventive measures we can take to avoid more stories like Otto’s. At our recent clinic in Aguacate, Nicaragua, the community brought 46 dogs and 27 cats to be spayed/neutered free of charge. Low-income pet owners were also provided basic veterinary care, including dewormers and rabies vaccines.

Disease, hunger and dehydration are all too common in stray populations of dogs and cats. Spay and neuter services are critical to tackling the abundant suffering of animals in places like Nicaragua.
