Hi Global Strays Partner,

As you may know, we celebrated our 6th anniversary in April. In honor of 6 amazing years, I’m sharing with you 6 lessons our staff have learned working for Global Strays:

1. People’s love for their pets is more universal than I thought when I started Global Strays. In the impoverished regions we work, pet owners love their pets just as much as we do but lack the resources to care for them. This is why Global Strays focuses on these regions of the world. There's a dire need for tools and services for pet owners and shelters in these areas.

2. When you go to a shelter outside the U.S., 200 dogs in someone’s tiny backyard patio is normal, so don’t wear nice clothes and your shoes will be totally destroyed no matter how much you clean them.

--Liz, Founder, President

3. Time zones are savage and daylight savings is a mind game. No one is on the same page. Ever.

4. Dogs are not meant to be aggressive. If they are, it is an indicator of trauma.
--Kristy, International Programs Director
5. I’ve learned my dog doesn’t care when I tell her how lucky she is to have a roof over her head and food in her belly. Every day after work, I say, "Ava, do you know how lucky you are? There are dogs in Nicaragua that are starving. There are cats in Colombia that don't have a home. You live a very good life, stop complaining when I don’t give you enough treats."
--Tariana, Communications Director
6. Kids just get it! They are instinctively drawn to animals and caring for the earth. It is what they are taught in this foundational stage that directs their views towards animal welfare.
--Dr. Steve, Veterinary & Humane Education Consultant

I’ve learned more than I ever thought possible from my 6 years running Global Strays. But I want to hear from you! What are some things you've learned from your own animals or from being involved in animal welfare?

Just reply back to my email. Can't wait to hear from you.

Happy Thursday,

Liz
