Hi Global Strays Partner,

As you or your loved ones may be getting ready for back-to-school, I wanted to share some incredible stories from our educational program. Last school year,
Global Strays partnered with Liberia Animal Welfare and Conservation Society (LAWCS) to bring a youth-focused animal education program for the first time ever into Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia.

Now, let me tell you why this is groundbreaking. In Liberia, according to our partners, animals are often severely mistreated, neglected and even, by some, a source of food. The concept of animals as companions, and providing pets with basic necessities such as shelter, is truly brand new. Our educational program is the first and only program of its kind in Monrovia, and I believe it’s the key to ending animal cruelty.

Keep reading to learn more about our educators and how they're changing our students' lives.
Meet Our Educators
James Monwondor is a passionate humane educator working to promote animal welfare in Liberia. His love for animals has driven him to advocate for their rights and address issues of animal abuse in the country. James firmly believes that through humane education, we can create a more compassionate and respectful environment for both people and animals in Liberia.
Madusu Sannoh is a dedicated educator with a profound passion for animal welfare. Her love for animals was nurtured from a young age, inspired by her parents' teachings on the importance of caring for all living beings. She believes that every creature has the right to live and thrive and teaches her students to share that belief.
Through our year-long program, our educators reach students at ten schools from 1st - 6th grade, focusing on one animal welfare-related topic each month.

We want to introduce you to three students who have changed their views on animals because of the education they received through this program!
Meet Our Students
“One of the most important things I learned is that animals are just like humans. We should be kind to them, they have feelings too. We should always be the voice of animals and care for them by providing good food and clean drinking water.”

Veronica and Cutie
“I used to not put my dog’s food in a clean bowl, give him water always, and even bathe him. This program has really made me change my behavior toward animals.”

Gorma and Cute
“This is the first time people have told me about the importance of dogs in our lives and how we should care for them and provide for them. Thank you ever so much.”

Romeo and Teddy
Our educational programs address animal mistreatment at the root by curating a love of animals in the next generation. In Liberia, many elements of pet care that we take for granted are not commonly practiced by pet owners. Our students often enter the classroom fearing dogs and cats but they leave knowing how to be a voice for animals. With a strong humane education curriculum, students can bring empathy and compassion for animals into their communities.

Stay tuned for part 2 tomorrow.

Warmly,

Liz
