Go Beyond Rescue
8 MILLION
That is the number of animals Global Strays has kept off the street through its Spay and Neuter programs in Colombia and Nicaragua.
OVERBURDENED COMMUNITIES
In many communities even the most loving pet owners simply cannot afford to spay or neuter their pets. Because pets often roam free, these pets further contribut to the stray population.
A CRUEL LIFE
During their short lives, most strays will rarely have enough to eat, be attacked by disease and parasites, face physical abuse, and die before they are five years old.
THE $22 SOLUTION
Spay/ Neuter programs stop animal suffering before it starts, and are shockingly cost-effective. Because of the matching donation, you can double the impact of your gift–through September 15th, just $22 will keep 109,632 (54,816 x2) strays off the street.

Give now and Go Beyond Rescue
to fight animal suffering at its root.

Spay/Neuter Programs
About Our Spay and Neuter Clinics

Granada, Nicaragua
Nicaragua’s stray dogs don’t just face hunger and violence on the streets, since 2024 they face deadly screwworm infections too. That is one more reason why Spay/Neuter programs are so critical. Global Strays runs spay neuter programs alongside their working horse clinics to make sure dogs don’t suffer just because their owners can’t afford vet care.

Bogotá, Colombia
With 1,231 stray dogs per square mile in some neighborhoods, Bogotá’s dogs face a crisis of epidemic proportions. That is why Global Strays works to end animal suffering by offering spay/neuter clinics in underserved neighborhoods. Global Strays supports pet owners with Spay/Neuter they could never otherwise afford, stopping neglect and abandonment before it starts.
With approximately 7 million stray dogs in the countries we work in alone, our efforts saving individual dogs will never be enough. That is why we focus on going Beyond Rescue.
The Details
Exponential Impact Calculations
*Just in case you are wondering about how we came to this estimate: after careful deliberation, we chose the most conservative estimate at every step to make sure that we never overestimate the impact of your donation. For our calculations, we estimate that each dog has two litters of six dogs each every year, but that only four of those twelve puppies survive into adulthood. We are also estimating that each dog only has litters for two years in their lifetime (Stray dogs live between 3 and 5 years, by choosing the lower limit, these dogs only have two reproductive years, instead of 4.) Finally, we did not calculate how many more puppies a male dog might sire as these numbers, while much higher, are much more difficult to estimate accurately.
The Match
From August 15th through September 15th, every dollar up to $15,000 will be matched through a generous gift from Peter Lamandia, doubling the impact of your donation.

Spay & Neuter’s Power is Exponential
One stray will give birth to 12 puppies in a year–she and her puppies will have at least 132 strays in just 4 years, 984 strays in 6 years, and by the time the decade is over they will have added 54,816 strays to streets. This painful math highlights a profound truth: we can’t rescue our way out of this stray dog crisis.
